Music and Art Make You Happy

Academics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology assembled health profiles of that country's Scandinavian population. The Scientists found that people who enjoyed artistic pursuits, such as playing a musical instrument, tended to be happier overall. Regardless of the individual's socio-economic status, music helped stave off mental health problems, including depression. Music was also found to have a similar effect on those who did not play a musical instrument but enjoyed music through cultural activities.

There's an App for That
Ocarina is the first true musical instrument created for the iPhone. To play, blow into your microphone and hold down combinations of holes to change pitch. You can also tilt your phone to change vibrato rate and depth. Advanced users can change keys and modes, including C-Major and the new Zeldarian mode. The app also allows you to manually or automatically record your melodies while you play, share with friends and family over email right from your phone, and display your music on your own "My Ocarina" web page. Check out the video below to see an Ocarina iPhone band play Stairway to Heaven!

The application can be purchased for $.99 through the iPhone App Store, or more information can be found at ocarina.smule.com.
