A Phoenix native, Ruth Wenger is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Cello Performance under Thomas Landschoot, where she also received Bachelor's degrees in Cello Performance and Communication. During her musical studies at ASU she has performed in master classes and been coached by many renowned musicians such as Bernard Greenhouse, Brinton Smith, Yehuda Hanani, Scott Kluksdahl, and members of the Julliard, Tokyo, Brentano, and St. Lawrence string quartets.
Ruth has been teaching in the Phoenix valley for over seven years, including sectionals with the Phoenix Youth Symphony and local public schools, as well as workshops on body-mind awareness for musicians at Scottsdale Community College. She holds regular solo recitals at ASU, where she continues to explore the cello repertoire. Ruth has also played in many local orchestras, including with the ASU Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, the West Valley Symphony, Musica Nova, Symphony of the Southwest, the Flagstaff Symphony, and Scottsdale Arts Orchestra. As a chamber musician she enjoys regular performances with ASU's Herberger String Quartet, which she joined in 2011. She has performed with various other string quartets for nearly a decade, including an appearance with the Red Rocks Music Festival in 2007. She now owns and runs Sound of Elegance, a local string music ensemble that provides live music to special events statewide.
Lessons with Ruth focus on learning fundamental technique, music theory and notation, but above all evoking a genuine enthusiasm for this wonderful gift of music! Drawing on her experience of practicing and teaching yoga, she makes sure that body awareness and efficiency of movement are also addressed.
